Discover Artelo: Kennett Square’s Newest Boutique Hotel

14-room hotel on South Birch Street offers unique immersion in local art

KENNETT SQUARE, PA – Square Roots Collective is pleased to share details and grand opening date for Artelo, Kennett Square’s newest experiential overnight destination. The 14-room boutique hotel is set to open its doors on July 11, offering an exciting blend of comfort, local flare and artistic immersion.

“Artelo is more than just a hotel, it is an invitation to discover Kennett Square through a new and exciting artistic lens,” said Stephanie Almanza, Project Lead for Artelo. “Each of our 14 rooms features original artwork created by regional artists, offering guests a distinctive and immersive experience. We are so excited to open our doors and welcome the community to experience this new treasure on Birch Street.”

The public is invited to a grand opening and gallery reception at Artelo on Thursday, July 11, 2024 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Attendees will have a chance to tour the hotel, meet the artists, and finish out the night with an after party at The Creamery. Attendees of the gallery reception will also receive a limited-edition print (while supplies last).

Artelo is located at 201 Birch Street on the corner of South Broad St. in downtown Kennett Square, occupying the former Birch Inn that closed in 2017. SRCI began renovation work on the hotel in 2023, and soon after solicited a call-for-artists to design site-specific pieces of artwork to be installed directly on the hotel walls. The 14 artists chosen for the room installations include: Liz Maycox, Wing Chow, Serena Saunders, Mz.Icar, Alloyius Mcilwaine, Kala Hagopian, Busta, Christian Kanienberg, Betsy Z. Casanas, Ali M. Williams, Phillip Adams, Chenlin Cai, Robert C. Jackson, and Freiman Stoltzfus.

“I'm thrilled that Kennett Square's newest hotel is one that tells a story through the creative expression of fourteen different artists,” said Daniel Embree, Executive Director, Kennett Collaborative. As someone with a background in visual art, I was impressed with Artelo's process of selecting a diverse group of regional artists, each with a different style. This is a community that values beauty and novelty, and Artelo is a natural addition to our charming town. Welcome to Kennett Square, Artelo!”

Artelo is a project by Square Roots Collective that is 100% owned by a non-profit. Profits from Artelo are reinvested into community improvements, supporting local non-profits such as Family Promise of Southern Chester County, United Way of Southern Chester County, and Kennett Trails Alliance. By choosing to stay at Artelo, guests contribute directly to the betterment of the Kennett Square community.
